Man! It’s gettin’ tough to be a man. At least one who puts value in heroes.
Used to really enjoy listening to Jian Ghomeshi on CBC Radio. And then the truth arrived about what a depraved dude he is when it comes to his treatment of women. Timberrrrrrr... hero #1 carted off in figurative legirons. Who knew?
Bill Cosby: such a role model, breaking the colour barrier with a weekly starring role way back in the 60s along side Bob Culp in “I Spy”. And those comedy albums: nailed it! But then the truth arrives about what a depraved dude he is when it comes to having to drug girls in order to have his way with them. (Seriously, where the hell is the joy in that!?) Timberrrrrrr... another hero carted off, hopefully to the hoosegow where he belongs.
Seemed pretty apparent from the get-go that Harvey Weinstein was a bit of a self-serving schmuck and not someone I’d choose as a dinner companion. But he and his brother produced some beautiful films that deserve recognition... until Timberrrrrrr... after way too many #Metoo ladies blew the whistle on him.
Gotta tell you that when I had my TV show and I was compared to Charlie Rose, my pride soared. I thought very highly of his style. But now he too has fallen under the same wave of sexual abuse. Timberrrrrr...
Just read about Leslie Moonves. You know, I had the privilege of sitting with Bob Wright in his luxurious Florida residence as I interviewed him about his time as Chair of NBC for my book “Pushing The Boundaries”. I walked away from that with a new appreciation for what a dicey, demanding, diplomatic job it is to run a major TV network. Les Moonves was another hero, running CBS and dealing with Sumner Redstone’s family while trying to steer the ship amidst huge changes in viewership preferences. But Timberrrrrr... there goes Les amid a chorus of no less than 12 ladies complaining about him being such a lout.
Sadly, the list goes on and on leaving those of us who respect women to say, Man! It’s gettin’ tough to be a man. At least one who puts value in heroes.
